Root distribution
Hi Jirka,
I hope you are well. I have a few questions for you. My first is regarding the scaling factors. What does it mean in Hydrus? Finally, my second, does root distribution represent the capacity of water distribution in the root?
Best regards,
Cranberry1

Hi Mr. Jirka,
Could you please send me a copy of your article Parameter Optimization and Nonlinear Fitting, In: Methods of Soil Analysis, Part 1, Physical Methods, Chapter 1.7, Eds. J. H. Dane and G. C. Topp, Third edition, SSSA, Madison, WI, 139-157, 2002. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to find it on PC Progress or elsewhere. Second, in the inverse method, when I input my paramaters in the time field, I place them in daily measurments. Can I produce hourly data in simulated and experimental graphics (delta t)?
Thanks,
Cranberry1

Paper: YOu can get it at my webpage at http://www.pc-progress.com/en/Default.a ... ka-simunek
Time steps: You can use any time step you wish. The restrictions are quite minimal (only to be reasonable with respect to time discretization).

Hi Jirka,
I am unable to calculate the intial time step, minimum time step and maximum time step. As you suggested, I adopted 0.01d as my initial time step and 1s as my minimum time step but I get an error message that refuses my minimum time step. If my initial time is 0 and my final time is 600 hours, can you help me determine these variables.
Cordially,
Cranberry1

Hi Mr. Jirka,
Why is it that in the post-processing I cannot find h(t). Every time I attempt it, I get time versus all pressure head. Can you please demonstrate how I can find h(t) simulated when I input Ep, Pt, Ks, Bc and BI.
Best regards,
Suzanne
N.B. Depth of soil profile = 100 cm
BC = Upper atmospheric bottom = constant pressure head
BI = Z = 0 corresponds to h = - 60 cm, z = 70 cm, h = 0 cm, z = 100 cm, h = 30 cm

Subject: Simulating Multiple Root Architectures in a Single HYDRUS-2D Domain
Hey Šimůnek,
I'm working on a project using HYDRUS-2D. I want to simulate plants with different root system architectures (RSA) within the same soil material and domain (1000 × 100 cm), without creating separate domains or simulations for each genotype.
Is there a way to assign different RSAs within the same domain setup?
Thank you!

Re: Root distribution
I’m not aware of any. J.
Re: Root distribution
Thank you for your quick reply. I understand—it's helpful to know that this functionality may not be directly supported.
I’ll explore possible workarounds. However, If you come across any alternative approach or user who has tried something similar, I’d really appreciate it if you could point me in that direction.
Thanks again for your time!
