HP1 memory allocation

I am running a 300 day simulation in HPx (beta version including gas-phase diffusion) with several kinetic and equilibrium reactions in the reactive term. In order to accurately resolve upper boundary gas fluxes I need a small time-step size (t = 0.0001 days). Higher time step sizes result in numerical error at the boundary, but when reducing the time step the model seams to run out of memory allocation, I receive the following error:

"ERROR: NULL pointer returned from malloc or realloc."

I am running the model on a 64 bit operating system, 16 GB RAM - intel(r) core(tm) i7-2600k cpu @ 3.40ghz.

Is there any way to change storage settings in order to surpass this?
