Correct input for CEC in HP1

The HP1 code incorporates modules simulating
(1) transient water flow in variably-saturated media,
(2) transport of multiple components, and
(3) mixed equilibrium/kinetic geochemical reactions.

Correct input for CEC in HP1

Post by Ikenna » Wed Apr 25, 2012 11:04 am

Hello dear Diederik!
I'm trying to understand how to input CEC in HP1.
My material has a CEC of 2.4 cmolc kg-1 (2.4 centimol charge per kilogram). How do I put this in such a way that HP1 understands it under Geochemical model in HP1 definitions?

Thank you very much!

See the HP1 Tutorials (2.Transport and Cation Exchange (a single pulse)) at http://www.pc-progress.com/en/Default.a ... torials#k6. I believe that CEC is discussed there.

The CEC should be defined in mol (or eq) / dm? soil in HP1.
The conversion of CEC in meq/kg soil to the unit needed for HP1 is given indeed explained in e.g. exercise 4 of tutorial 6. Basically, you multiply CEC with bulk density (and adapts the units).

Thank you so very much dear Jirka and Diederik. I have gone through those parts of the tutorial and I got it!

Thanks!
