HP1 installation and setup
I'd like to model reactive and diffusive gas transport in the unsaturated zone, and if I've understood correctly HP1 ver. 2 is capable of doing that.
I've downloaded the HP1.zip from www.sckcen.be/hp1/. The manual (HP1.pdf) that comes with the zip-file is for version 1 of HP1. Are the program files version 2, or...?
In case it is actually version 2, then how do I install/setup the HP1 program files? I already have PHREEQC for Windows installed (not PHREEQCI), and I'd like to keep that installation unaffected by HP1.

Probably, I misformulated it. Version 2 is not able to do gas diffusion yet. However, we are very close to that. It is implemented, I just have to verify it. How urgently do you need/want this?
All HP1 files can be read by version 2.0. Version 2.O has the possibility to create the phreeqc.in input file through the GUI.
HP1 program files are installed by just installing HYDRUS-1D version 4.13 or higher. You do not need PHREEQC for Windows for running HP1. HP1 installation will not affect your PHREEQC installation.

What I like about the HP1-option is that it combines two very well described codes: phreeqc and hydrus, whereas min3p is less well documented, though min3p should be able to do what I need.

HYDRUS-1D support three different way of simulating solute transport:
a) the standard way - independent solutes, possibly linked using first-order decay chains
b) HP1 - HYDRUS coupled with PHREEQC, and
c) HYDRUS coupled with UNSATCHEM - this module allows you to simulate transport of major ions (and consider mutual interractions) and transport and production of CO2.
These three approaches are independent. The only common part is water flow and heat transport, which is almost identical in all three of them. We are currently working with Diederik on moving the CO2 transport module from UNSATCHEM (although without the production component) into HP1.

It is available for any gas for which the solubility is described with a Henry-law type of relation, so certainly for CO2 and O2.

Just to clarify and update these posts. Is HP1 with generic gas diffusion now (May 2013) distributed with Hydrus (v. 4.16.0080)?
And, does the HP1 make use of th erecentlyb released PHREEQC 3 code?

I have to answer negatively twice:
-> if you want to have the latest version with gas diffusion (having deleted some bugs), you need to ask me for a different version
-> We still have phreeqc-2. I hope, later this year, we can switch to phreeqc-3
