Request for guidance regarding root distribution function

Dear all,
I hope my email finds you well. I have a request for guidance regarding how to specify normalized root distribution function or b(x) in Hydrus-1D. The hydrus-1D document for b(x) says that b(x) -the normalized root water uptake distribution function- has to have a dimension of 1/L (page 17 of v 4.17). However, Equation 2.16 (p.18) says that its integral with depth for the root zone has to be 1. I then referred to the Tutorial # 9 on the Hydrus website. In tutorial # 9, for a 100 cm soil profile the b(x) is provided as a linear function of depth- top value =100/cm and bottom value 0 1/cm. When I integrated the function with respect to depth, I get a value 5000 and not 1. Therefore, I’m not sure how to correctly specify b(x) for my case. Would you please let me know if you have any suggestions?
