Root growth rate of barley in the Hydrus 1D model?

Hello all,
I am going to model the root growth of barley with time to define the rooting depth at specific time t. HYDRUS 1D uses the classical Verhulst-Pearl logistic growth function (see page 20 of the manual "The HYDRUS-1D Software Package for Simulating the One-Dimensional Movement of Water, Heat, and Multiple Solutes in Variably-Saturated Media, version 4.08). However, this equation needs the growth rate of barley root [T-1] as a priori known data. I do not have measured time series data of barley root growth to calculate and define the variable "r". I do not prefer to assign r value through the rule of thumb that 50% of the rooting depth will be reached after 50% of the growing season has elapsed. I appreciate anyone who can assist me about any similar study or literature or measured value of r that is determined for barley. Is there any default value for it in a library of HYDRUS 1D?
