Bare fallow Modelling

Dear Jirka, we are modelling a crop cycle, which includes a period with bare fallow (no growing crop, but the soil is cover with vegetal residues, because is under no-tillage), followed by a maize crop. The simulation is quite simple, we are modelling the A-horizon, with upper boundery condition equal to atmospheric and free drainage for the bottom. We set the hCrit equal to 10000 (lower than P3). The problem is with the bare fallow during winter. The soil remains practically saturated (measured data with soil moisture sensors installed in the field), but the simulation shows that the soil gets too dry. I think that the problem is with the crop data. For this period, we set the LAI equal to 1 and no growing roots. Is it correct? When maize is growing, there is no problem with the simulation.
