I am having an issue with running a simple 2D steady-state simulation of a fully saturated domain. The models is of a valley with a hill slope on either side and measures approximately 650m wide and 300m high. The lateral and bottom boundaries are no-flow and the top is constant saturation equal to porosity. The model runs fine with a coarse FE mesh of 4m or greater, but fails to converge if the mesh is reduced to 3m or smaller. I believe a finer mesh should allow for easier convergence; do you know why this is not the case?
