hydraulic conductivity

Post by Srilert » Tue Aug 11, 2009 2:38 am

Dear all,

Can I use other fluid in HYDRUS-2D by changing hydrualic conductivity as follow?

K=[(permeability)*(fluid density)*g]/ fluid viscosity

1. As i know hydraulic conductivity from falling head method => I will know permeability (using above equation)
2. Then, I use above equation by using permeability and density of the new fluid to calculate hydraulic conductivity of that fluid in the media
3. use new hydraulic conductivity in modeling

I would very appreciated it, if anyone can explain this

regards,

Srilert

Srilert,

I’m on vacations and thus do not have all formulas ehead of me. The conversion should be simple. You need to specify hydraulic conductivity for particular liquid that you want to simulate. If you know the conductivity for water and want to calculate the conductivity for the other liquid, then you indeed need to calculate first the permeability (using particular fluid density an viscosity) and then calculate the conductivity for the second liquid (using again particular fluid density an viscosity).
