Re: Calling species concentrations for kinetic rates

Hi, Do you simulate single-species sorption? You then introduce a kinetic reactant, say SorbedSpecies. The kinetic equation is: dSorbedSpecies / dt = k (SorbedSpecies - K*AqSpecies) the second term being the equilibrium amount of the sorbed species. In HP1, the concentration unit of a kinetic reacta...

Re: gaseous by-product

Hello,

If you want to use the gas diffusion option, you better use a more recent version of HP1. If you send me your Email, I will send you a link for installing that version and the manual with a few examples and instructions to include gas diffusion..

Re: Species not transported

Hi,
it remains in the memory of the solution definition in PHREEQC - after the next transport step, it will be in the solution.

Re: What is unit of bulk density?

Dear, the variable bulk density defined in the HYDRUS Graphical user interface is not used in /transferred to HP1. The bulk density defined in the HYDRUS graphical user interface for adsorption calculations. This is not needed in HP1, there you use the phreeqc keywords exchange or surface to specify...

Hello,

it is the same approach for HPx, but the name of the file is path.dat instead of level_01.dir (and the executable is HP1.exe)

Re: HP1 Kinetic mineral dissolution and transport

No, you can have irregular discretization . The geochemical problem always performs the calculation for 1dm³ and change the concentration. The concentrations are then used in the transport simulation. You can just test it. Doubling the discretization, but not changing the amounts in phreeqc.in (not ...

Re: [HP2] How to implement the feedback from PHREEQC to HP2 GUI?

Dear, There is a beta version for HP1 including possibilities to change hydraulic and transport parameters (official release foreseen later this year). I have apply it also in different studies for dissolution and carbonation of concrete . It is also implemented in HP2, but I need some more time to ...

Re: how to setup correct ph for soultions

From the input files you have send, I noted that you use three valance states of N in your initial solution. The initial calculation shows that they are is no redox equilibrum which is kept during the initial calculation. From the moment the transport simulations start, solution speciation is always...

Re: HP1 with more than 20 solutes

Hello, you cannot run more than 20 species with the default HPx program (as embedded in the HYDRUS GUI). We have a dummy version that I distributed on request (if you send me your email address). The issue of Mn I cannot solve now - do you have it also with less than 20 components? I tried Mn in the...

Re: HP2 running so slow

Hi, one possibility is that your system / rate equations become stiff. Sometimes this can be solved by using the cvode option in the KINETIC data block. Did you test the rate equations for relevant geochemical conditions in batch mode (phreeqc) or 1D? this might give more insight in the stability of...

Re: HP1 pH differences from PHREEQC run

Hi,

I guess you use surface complexation with -no_edl option. In that case, the solution is not neutral, but has a charge that has to be transported. You need to add an additional 'solute' to be transported, namely Charge,

Re: Question on the necessety of HP1 for my project and on the download web adress

Dear, if hydrus-1D can handle the water flow for your problem (capillary rise in a porous media), then HP1 can handle the geochemistry (calculating saturation index and mineral precipitation). To include the combined flow, transport and geochemistry, you indeed need to be familiar with the water flo...
