Re: Inquiries about Microplastics Transport Modeling

Several people have used HYDRUS to simulate the fate and transport of microplastic particles (and hundreds of people for other particles) in the subsurface. You can simply search for listed references (https://www.pc-progress.com/en/Default.aspx?h1d-references) and get some inspiration from these st...

Re: Accumulation of PFAS in Groundwater

You will either have to a) include groundwater into the simulated transport domain so that HYDRUS can account for what is happening there, or b) you can use some simple mixing model accounting for processes in GW. See the graph below demonstrating a simple mixing model. J.

Re: Measured RLD combined with root growth

As I wrote in Help, when the rooting depth is time-variable, i.e., calculated using the root growth model or specified together with the time-variable boundary conditions, then the root distribution model of Hoffman and van Genuchten (1983) is used. Any other shape of the rooting zone can be used on...

Re: PFAS Linear Sorption has no effect on PFAS transport

It would be useful to know, which version of HYDRUS you use. There was one version of 5.02, in which we already implemented into the computational module the two-site kinetic sorption to AWI (the standard option in version 5,.03), while GUI did not reflect it yet. However, we replaced this version i...

Re: soil profile depth when using variable pressure head for lower boundary & GWL reference for calculate

Note that the discussion forum is only meant to be a supplemental support to what is already explained in the manual and the help. I have nothing to add to what I have written about hCritA in those texts. J.

Re: soil profile depth when using variable pressure head for lower boundary & GWL reference for calculate

This is something you should be able to figure out yourself. See our Tutorial eBook: https://www.pc-progress.com/Downloads/Public_Lib_H1D/HYDRUS-1D_Tutorial_V1.00_2018.pdf Rassam, D., J. Šimůnek, D. Re: Feddes parameters in root water uptake

You certainly can. However, you will have to use some external optimization tool (e.g., Pest, UCode, or some Python or MatLab code) rather than internal HYDRUS calibration, which is not set up to estimate Feddes’ parameters. Internal HYDRUS calibration is set up to estimate only soil hydraulic or so...

Re: Time units in meteorological conditions for ET calculation

You should use units as indicated by the GUI. In general, you should always use time and space units as selected in the Geometry and Time Information windows, respectively. The only exceptions are meteo data (as indicated in GUI) used by the Penman-Montheith equation, i.e., Radiation, Wind Speed, Su...

Re: IC and Head Reference Point

I have no idea what mNN is. When I googled it, I got either Manhattan Neighborhood Network or Mission Network News . But anyway. When you select a domain, the reference point is always the lowest located node, and if there are several nodes at one z-coordinate, then it is the one most to the left. O...

Yes. I had two courses, one for the US time zone and one for the Asian/Aussie time zone. I believe both were OK (for the attendees). Now, I’m recovering by hiking (during the entire next week) in the Eastern Sierra. Greetings from the Rock Creek Lake. Jirka

RETC does not consider hysteresis, However, you can obviously analyze separately wetting and driving branches of the retention curve, and get parameters for each of these. J.

Re: Solute transport result oscillations

There are multiple approaches that can reduce numerical oscillations: 1. Upstream weighting (can be selected at the Solute Transport – General Information window) 2. GFE with artificial dispersion (ditto). 3. Increase dispersion, i.e., the longitudinal dispersivity and molecular diffusion. This may ...
