Program Authorization
The term "Program" in the following text refers to a specific program, e.g. HYDRUS, DREAM Suite...
All Programs are secured against an unauthorized use by a hardware key (USB dongle - HASP) or software activation. The method of protection can be selected when ordering a user license. Both methods have some advantages and also disadvantages - see details below.
The authorization is verified when starting the Program. If any failure occurs, a warning is displayed that the program is running in a demo mode, in which the Program is not fully functional, i.e. it is not possible to run the calculation and/or the Program functionality restricted in another way.
Software activation
The software activation is a process when the authorization of Program is based on a unique numerical code, generated for a particular computer and for one-time use. The code is tied to the hardware configuration, i.e. it cannot be used on another computer, or reused on the same one if losing the authorization for some reason. Each activation is time-limited (even if you have a permanent license) and must be extended before (or after) its expiry. The time-limited activation was introduced to prevent some unwanted consequences in events such as computer crashes and similar hardware problems that require a new activation of Program without its prior deactivation. The Program can also be deactivated manually and the license transferred to another computer.
Installation and Activation on a Single Computer:
Network Installation:
Hardware key (USB dongle - HASP)
The hardware key is very simple to use and you can easily move the authorization from one computer to another one. You just need to insert this USB device into your computer and Program will find it automatically. A problem may occur if the hardware key is lost, which can mean the loss of the license. See details
Remarks on Time-limited Activation
The activation of Program is always time-limited (even if you have a permanent license) and the maximum activation period is one year. You can extend the activation any time before its expiration using the button "Extend activation on-line" in the Program license dialog. After the authorization expires, you can reactivate Program using the on-line activation or by e-mail (see "Installation and Activation" above). The time-limited activation was introduced to prevent some unwanted consequences in events such as computer crashes and similar hardware problems that require a new activation of Program without its prior deactivation.
Deactivation of Program
When you should deactivate Program
- Before any hardware changes (motherboard, hard-drives, graphic card, BIOS, etc.)
- Before reinstallation of Windows
- Before reformatting the hard-drive with Program
- Before changing the network path to Program (applies to the network installation)
- If you wish to move your license to another computer
- If you know that you will not be using Program for a long time
Deactivation - Common Instructions
- Program deactivation requires administrator’s privileges, i.e., you must be logged in as an administrator (or as a user belonging to “administrators” group). Under Windows Vista and Windows 7 you must run Program “As Administrator” (click on the Program icon on your desktop using the right mouse button and select “Run As Administrator”).
- Open the Program License and Activation dialog (main menu -> help -> Program License and Activation) and press the “Deactivate on-line” or “Deactivate by E-mail” button. If your computer is connected to the internet, we recommend you the on-line deactivation.
On-line Deactivation
- Press the "Deactivate on-line" button.
- Enter the deactivation key (the same key which was used for Program activation). If you forgot this key, you can obtain it in ELIS.
- If you have a firewall, allow all internet connections in the popup window which may be displayed.
- Program will connect with our server and will be deactivated.
Deactivation by E-mail
- Press the ”Deactivate by E-mail” button, which will deactivate Program on your computer.
- Program will generate a special Deactivation Code, which serves as a proof of deactivation. This code will be displayed in the Program License and Activation dialog.
- Login to ELIS, go to Licenses and Workplaces, select the Workplace corresponding to the computer that you just deactivated and deactivate this Workplace using the Deactivation Code. This will unlock the WP and make it available for activation on another computer.
- You can also send the Deactivation Code to support@pc-progress.cz or to your Program reseller, who will unlock the deactivated workplace in ELIS instead of you.
Reinstallation or Moving License to Another Computer
Program reinstallation
If you reinstall Program with the same version (or with a newer version) on an activated computer then the authorization remains active automatically, i.e., you need not deactivate Program before the reinstallation and ask for new activation codes. This applies to the single-user license on a standalone computer where Program was working as the full version. The same applies also to the network installation under the assumption that Program is reinstalled on the same network drive (with the same UNC path). In such a case please remember that the same version of Program should be installed on all network clients.
Moving Program license to another computer
Moving Program license to another computer is simple and you can do it yourself (without assistance of customer support) either on-line or in ELIS in two steps:
- Deactivate Program on the old computer (see instructions above).
- Activate Program on the new computer (see instructions above).
