HYDRUS License Types

  • Important note: Before choosing a HYDRUS license, we recommend reading the information on authorization methods of the HYDRUS program.

HYDRUS Licenses

The HYDRUS license type is defined by three criteria listed below. To choose your license, you need to select the right option for each criterion.

1. Use of the License

  • Educational License is intended for universities and their computer classrooms. They allow a much larger number of concurrent users than commercial licenses - see, for example, Educational Site License E4 for 20 users. Educational licenses cannot be used for commercial purposes (which is, however, possible with a surcharge of 25%).
  • Commercial License is intended for all other customers who want to use HYDRUS for commercial purposes.

2. The Number of Concurrent Users

  • Single-User License is a licence for one user.
    • S1H is a license controlled by the Local Hardware Key, which is a USB dongle that must be connected to a computer running HYDRUS.
    • S1A is a personal license intended for a specific user and is controlled by the Software Key, which allows the use of HYDRUS on two computers (e.g. desktop and a laptop – one computer can be used at the same time only). The user name is registered when purchasing the license and cannot be changed afterwards. This license cannot be used remotely (Remote Desktop, etc.) and on virtual machines.
    • M1AE, M1AB, N1E and N1B are licenses for one PC, which can be used by different users. These licenses therefore belong to the group of multi-user custom site licenses.
  • Multi-user License is a license valid for a given number of computers which are all located at one single physical site of a company or institution.
    • Standard Site License is a multi-user license at a discounted price, which corresponds to double the price of a single-user license.
    • Custom Site License is a multi-user license for all other cases not covered by Standard Site licenses.

3. License Access

  • Standalone License (node-locked license) is locked to an individual piece of hardware, i.e. to a particular computer by the Software Key or to the USB Dongle. A standalone license may be purchased with multiple seats so that the software may be licensed and installed on as many computers as you have seats for. If you want to move the license from one machine to another, you must either move the USB Dongle or, in case of the Software Key, deactivate HYDRUS on the first machine and activate it to the new machine. Standalone License cannot be used via remote desktop.
  • Network License (floating license). With a network license, HYDRUS can be installed on multiple computers and the license is shared by multiple users. A license server (Network HASP) on the organization’s network holds the HYDRUS license and allows it to be ‘checked out’ by different users. Once a user is done working with a floating license, it is checked back into the license server for other users to check out and use. Like standalone licenses, one network license may have multiple seats so that multiple users may be licensed and use the software at the same time. Virtual machines, remote desktop access, or other network environments used to access software will require network licenses. Network licenses are best for larger organizations, or for computer classrooms at universities, where multiple users need access to the HYDRUS program.
  • Combined License is only available as a multi-user license and consists of both standalone and network seats.

All specific license types and their prices are available at the HYDRUS Pricing page.

The License Structure

Some multi-user licenses may have a more complex structure and this structure is defined using so-called "Workplaces". The workplace can be either a stand-alone computer (also called "Workseat") or a network server providing authorization to N clients connected via the network. The HYDRUS license therefore always consists of one or more Workplaces - for example, see Educational License E4, which consists of 3 workplaces: WP1 = Standalone PC, WP2 = Standalone PC, WP3 = Network Server for 15 clients.

Hard Copies of Manuals and Installation CD

HYDRUS licenses are usually delivered electronically, i.e., users can download the HYDRUS installation program and all documentation (user and technical manuals in a PDF format) from our website. However, it is still possible to order printed manuals and installation CDs for the license, and this installation package is sent to users by Fedex for an additional fee. Please note that electronic delivery is not only more ecological, faster, and cheaper than when the installation package is sent by post, but at the same time it ensures that the installation package is up-to-date, which is important especially because of the continued development of our products and their frequent updates.

The installation package contains:

  • Installation CD
  • User's Manual
  • Technical Manual

Price: EUR 250,- (includes shipping and handling)
