HYDRUS Licensing and Pricing

HYDRUS provides users with a great deal of flexibility since users can acquire only that segment of the software that is most appropriate for their application. Table 1 contains descriptions and pricing for the five available HYDRUS Levels (sometimes also called "Editions"). Users may select software for two-dimensional or both two- and three-dimensional applications, and may also opt for relatively simple or more complex geometries. Users are able to upgrade to higher Levels, as well as from older software (from HYDRUS 2.x to HYDRUS 3.x) to any new HYDRUS Level. Users can purchase either a Single or a Site License (see description below).

HYDRUS Editions

HYDRUS pricing is based on HYDRUS Editions (sometimes also called Levels), that reflect the complexity of the computational domain. Currently there are five levels: 2D-Lite, 2D-Standard, 3D-Lite, 3D-Standard and 3D-Professional. Higher levels always cover all functionalities of lower levels. To get more information about domain types in HYDRUS, visit Overview of Domain Types in HYDRUS.

Single License and Site License

  • Single License is intended for a single user. The authorization is controlled by a local HASP or by a Software Key. In the second case, HYDRUS can be activated on 2 computers, for example on a desktop and a laptop. Please note that although we will allow you to activate HYDRUS on two computers, the single license is intended for one user and HYDRUS should be running on only one of these computers at the same time. This license cannot be used as a network license, e.g., using a remote access or on virtual computers.
  • Site License allows you to buy multiple HYDRUS licenses for a bargain price.
    • Education Site Licenses. These licenses are intended for universities and their computers classrooms. They cannot be used for commercial purposes.
      • E1. Network license for 20 clients. The license is "floating", i.e., HYDRUS can be installed on more than 20 computers, but only 20 clients can run HYDRUS at the same time. The authorization is controlled by a hardware key (NetHASP) and supports a remote access and virtual environment.
      • E2. Multiple license for 8 standalone computers. This option enables activation of HYDRUS on up to 8 single computers. It cannot be used as a network license, e.g., using a remote access or on virtual computers.
      • E3. Combined license for 4 PCs and 10 Network clients. This license is a combination of option E1 and E2 with a reduced number of licenses.
      • E4. Combined license for 2 PCs and 15 Network clients. This license is a combination of option E1 and E2 with a reduced number of licenses.
    • Commercial Site Licenses. These licenses are intended for all other customers who want to use HYDRUS for commercial purposes.
      • B1. Network license for 4 clients. The license is "floating", i.e., HYDRUS can be installed on more than 4 computers, but only 4 clients can run HYDRUS at the same time. The authorization is controlled by a hardware key (NetHASP) and supports a remote access and virtual environment.
      • B2. Multiple license for 5 standalone computers. This option enables activation of HYDRUS on up to 5 single computers. It cannot be used as a network license, e.g., using a remote access or on virtual computers.
      • B3. Combined license for 2 PCs and 2 Network clients. This license is a combination of option B1 and B2 with a reduced number of licenses.
    • D. Custom Site License. If none of the above mentioned licenses meets your needs, please contact our customer support and we will prepare a quote for a HYDRUS license according to your requirements.

Remarks and restrictions on using HYDRUS licenses

  • All Site Licenses are intended for a single location of a company, or a single department in an educational or research institution. They are not intended for multiple company locations or multiple departments in an educational or research institution. Exceptions must be approved by PC-Progress by a written agreement.
  • Starting from version 2.02, the HYDRUS authorization is controlled either by a Software Key (Activation) or a Hardware Key (HASP). While HASP can be used for both Single-user and Network installations, the Activation can only be used for Single-user licenses. It is important to mention that HYDRUS installations on virtual computers and network servers with remote access are considered to be Network installations (since they can be used via LAN or WAN) and the Software Key authorization (Activation) will not work correctly. If you want to use HYDRUS in this way, you need to have a network (floating) license, which is controlled by the network hardware key (NetHASP).
  • The use of all HYDRUS licenses must be in accordance with the End-User License Agreement.

Prices of Single Licenses and Site Licenses to HYDRUS 3.x

Note that prices listed below do not include local taxes and/or local tax withholdings (which may be different in different countries and tax jurisdictions, depending on local tax laws). If such taxes apply, the customer himself/herself is responsible for paying such taxes.

  • Table 1 (below) contains prices of the most common HYDRUS licenses.
  • The detailed price list of all HYDRUS licenses is available in the following document: HYDRUS_Pricing.pdf.

Add-on Modules

Category M Flow, Transport and Reaction Simulations Single Lic. Site Lic.
M1 Wetland-2D The biogeochemical Wetland module simulates transport and reaction processes, in Constructed Wetlands (CWs), engineered water treatment systems that optimize the treatment processes found in natural environments. CWs are popular systems which efficiently treat different kinds of polluted water and are therefore sustainable environmentally friendly solutions. More information: Wetland Module. € 600,- € 1 200,-
M2 Unsatchem-2D The geochemical UNSATCHEM module simulates the transport of major ions (i.e., Ca, Mg, Na, K, SO4, CO3, and Cl) in variably-saturated porous media, including major ion equilibrium and kinetic non-equilibrium chemistry. The resulting code is intended for the prediction of major ion chemistry, as well as water and solute fluxes in soils during transient flow. More information: Unsatchem Module. € 600,- € 1 200,-
M3 DualPerm-2D The DualPerm Module simulates two-dimensional variably-saturated water movement and solute transport in dual-permeability porous media, i.e., preferential and nonequilibrium water flow and solute transport. More information: DualPerm Module. € 400,- € 800,-
M4 C-Ride-2D The C-Ride Module simulates two-dimensional colloid-facilitated solute transport, which often occurs for strongly sorbing contaminants (e.g., heavy metals, radionuclides, pharmaceuticals, pesticides, and explosives) that are associated predominantly with the solid phase. More information: C-Ride Module. € 400,- € 800,-
M5 HP2 Module The HP2 Module couples Hydrus with the PHREEQC geochemical code to create this new comprehensive simulation tool for (1) transient water flow, (2) the transport of multiple components, (3) mixed equilibrium/kinetic biogeochemical reactions, and (4) heat transport in two-dimensional variably-saturated porous media (soils). More information: HP2 Module. € 600,- € 1 200,-

Category P Program Performance
P1 HYPAR The HYPAR is a parallelized version of the standard two-dimensional and three-dimensional HYDRUS computational modules (h2d_calc.exe and h3d_calc.exe). HYPAR uses parallel programming tools and techniques to take advantage of new multicore and/or multiprocessor computers and significantly speed up time-consuming simulations, especially those requiring a large number of finite elements. More information: HYPAR Module. € 600,- € 1 200,-
Category S Slope Stability
S1 Slope Classic The "Slope Classic" add-on module is intended to be used mainly for stability checks of embankments, dams, earth cuts and anchored sheeting structures. The influence of water is modeled using the distribution of pore pressure, which is imported automatically from the HYDRUS results for specified times. Each time step of water distribution can be analyzed separately. More information:Slope Classic Module. € 600,- € 1 200,-
S2 Slope Cube The "SLOPE Cube" (Slope Stress and Stability) add-on module has been developed in cooperation with Dr. Ning Lu from the Colorado School of Mines and uses a unified effective stress approach for both saturated and unsaturated conditions (Lu et al., 2010). The module is intended to predict spatially and temporally infiltration-induced landslide initiation and to carry out the slope stability analysis under variably-saturated soil conditions. More information: Slope Cube Module. € 600,- € 1 200,-
